Sherilyn Benson, M.Ed.
Founder, Educational Consultant & Advocate

Rooted in compassion and driven by purpose, Sherilyn Benson founded Freya Educational Consulting to empower families and schools in navigating the complex world of special education. With more than 20 years of experience in education, advocacy, and leadership, she has built her career around one guiding principle: every child deserves an equitable, meaningful education that helps them thrive.

As both an educator and a parent, Sherilyn understands firsthand how overwhelming the special education process can feel. Her approach is grounded in empathy, transparency, and collaboration—bridging families and schools to create strong partnerships that support the whole child. She provides personalized consulting, advocacy, and training to ensure that every Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan is not just compliant, but effective and empowering.

Background in Education

Educational Background & Professional Expertise

Sherilyn holds a Master of Education degree in Special Education and is currently completing her Doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction with a Specialization in Special Education. Her advanced studies focus on inclusive education, leadership, and equitable practices for students with disabilities—particularly those who are twice-exceptional or have ADHD, dyslexia, or dysgraphia.

In addition to her graduate research, Sherilyn’s professional background includes:

  • Special Education Advocacy & Consulting – supporting parents through evaluations, IEP and 504 development, transition planning, and compliance.
  • Educational Diagnostician Coursework – providing deep understanding of assessment data, eligibility criteria, and intervention design.
  • Leadership in Curriculum & Instruction – guiding educators on differentiated instruction, universal design for learning (UDL), and equitable access.
  • Training & Workshops – creating customized sessions for teachers, administrators, and parents on special education rights, collaboration, and inclusive teaching.

Her combined expertise in policy, practice, and people allows her to translate the complexity of special education into clear, actionable steps that help students reach their fullest potential.
